Ever wondered how Jason Momoa got that scar on his face? Well we reveal the story behind it and also why Momoa is thankful for the incident which allowed him to transition to tough guy film roles.

Jason Momoa is fast chasing the ‘nicest guy in Hollywood’ crown – The Rock better watch out! Whether it be supporting his old Game of Thrones cast members, allowing a girl scout to use his image to sell cookies or shaving off his beard to raise environmental awareness, there just doesn’t seem to be a bad bone in his body. However to look at, Momoa has a very contradicting badass image with his long hair, tattoos and huge muscular frame. In particular, the large facial scar he has on his eyebrow is really the cherry on top for this bad guy image and Momoa says he is actually thankful for it.

When speaking to Access Hollywood back in 2011, Momoa revealed how he got the scar and it sounds intense:

It was crazy. A guy smashed a pint glass in my face. I got a little over 140 stitches in my face.

That’s right – it was from a bar brawl! Up until this point, Momoa had been in Baywatch and done a fair bit of modelling thanks to his pretty boy image but all this changed after the incident at Bird Cafe in Hollywood. The guy who assaulted him was Dominic Bando and he was later charged with assault and sentenced to five years in prison. The cut was so bad on Momoa’s face that he actually required reconstructive surgery but as you can guess, Bando also suffered a few injuries from Momoa.

Although the whole thing seems like it would be quite traumatic, Momoa actually thanks the incident in changing his image as it allowed him to enter a whole new world of film roles.

I got called ‘pretty boy’ my whole life. If anything, it’s like, ‘Good’. It’s not my thing now.

After his scar settled in, Momoa went on to film tough guy roles including Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and Conan the Barbarian, so I guess there is a silver lining to this scary assault case. Luckily this bad guy persona stops at his looks as he remains a true gentleman off camera.
