Mother Nature is more powerful than any force and is responsible for some of the most impressive – and sometimes scary – sights ever recorded in history. During extreme weather patches, she has shown us who is boss and that nothing will stand in her way. There is no greater evidence than the recent sub-zero temperatures sweeping across the US in what is called a polar vortex. Things got so cold Niagara Falls froze over!

What has been titled the Great Cold Snap of 2019 has given us plenty of strange sightings and we can now add another one to the list: ghost apples. Farmer Andrew Sietsema was pruning apple trees in an icy orchard in western Michigan when he came across some.
Speaking to CNN, Andrew said:
“I guess it was just cold enough that the ice covering the apple hadn’t melted yet, but it was warm enough that the apple inside turned to complete mush (apples have a lower freezing point than water). And when I pruned a tree it would be shaken in the process, and the mush would slip out of the bottom of the ‘ghost apple.'”

Michigan has really gone through the mill weather wise with ice and snow in abundance. Meteorologists explain the freezing rain experienced will turn anything it touches into a glaze of ice and in this case it was on unpicked old apples.
These ghost apples are unbelievable to look at and really are quite beautiful. It is incredible what phenomenons occur through nature and thank goodness social media allows us to share such unusual happenings.
