One of the biggest shifts in the world of food in recent years is the proliferation of delivery options. You can literally get any food you like sent to your door (pretty much) 24/7.
Think back five years and your delivery options were pretty much only pizza. Well, after seeing what this delivery driver was caught doing you might be wishing pizza was still the only option, as it would be pretty clear if your pizza arrived with a slice missing!
A video was recently posted on Twitter showing a delivery man, who was sitting on a moped wearing a Zomato T-shirt, taking food containers out of his delivery bag one by one and tasting the contents before resealing the boxes and putting them back in the delivery bag. Eww.
Zomato confirmed the man in the video, shot in Madurai, in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu was one of its workers and that he had since parted with the company.
The takeaway delivery firm said the incident was “highly unusual and a rare case”, and that it had a “zero-tolerance policy” when it came to any tampering with food.
Here’s the crazy moment caught on video:
Following the viral incident which was obviously fairly embarrassing for Zomato, the food delivery service has announced they’re creating tamper-proof tapes and other methods to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
“The person in the video happened to be a delivery partner on our fleet,” Zomato said in a statement.
“We have spoken to him at length – and while we understand that this was a human error in judgement, we have taken him off our platform.
“This particular incident, while unfortunate, only makes our commitment to fleet training, scheduling and process even stronger.”
