The world is awash with all manner of interesting and talented people. There’s Mark Wahlberg and his insane fitness regime. The Rock and his crazy cheat meals. Kanye west and his awesome music ( and bizarre rants!). And of course Elon Musk and his insane list of companies. In the age of the internet you don’t even need skills like that to grab a piece of the limelight, you can do it by sprinkling salt.
Turkish-born chef-restaurateur Nusret Gökçe became an internet sensation when he launched his Salt Bae videos showing him expertly slicing and dicing meat in awe of his viewers, and he always finishes the dish off with his signature dash of salt using his bent-elbow move.
Everyone’s favorite internet chef is back with his latest delicious dish, and this time he’s taking on an American classic: The Philly Cheesesteak.
The video, taken at the Miami location of his namesake Nusr-Et Steakhouse, has already racked up more than 10 million views. In it, Salt Bae — with his trademark dark shades, tight white T-shirt, and stoic expression — starts by slicing up a beautifully-marbled slab of beef with a big knife and his customary flair.
I don’t know about you but that looks pretty dam delicious to me. Gökçe avoids the common pitfalls of non-Philly cheesesteaks (ketchup, the accursed bell pepper, fixation) while fancying up the sandwich in a way that pays homage to the ooey, gooey roots that make it so fantastic.
This isn’t the first time the salt-sprinkling sensation has toyed with the marriage of cheese and steak. A few weeks ago he took things to the next level by producing what’s possibly the cheesiest steak dish you’ll ever see.
That’s my kind of dish.
Do you have a favorite Salt Bae video? I’d love to hear all about it.
