KFC Only Follows 11 People On Twitter And The Reason Why Is Pure Genius

Every business has a different way of utilizing social media; Wendy’s are known for taking shots at their fast-food rivals at every opportunity, McDonald’s use theirs to tease new menu items, and Elon Musk uses his personal profile for all manner of crazy realizations.

Fast-food aficionados will know that KFC have a decent social media presence. KFC is the second largest fast-food restaurant chain in the world. Since Harland Sanders founded the company in Kentucky in 1930, KFC has grown to over 18,000 stores in 118 countries around the world (only McDonald’s has more stores). In the U.S. alone, 8 million people visit KFC every single day.

No surprise that they’ve got a solid 1.4 million followers on Twitter. What is a little surprising is they only follow 11 people. At first glance there’s nothing particularly noteworthy about that fact, until we looked into who the 11 accounts were.

There’s Geri Haliwell, one-fifth of the recently-reformed Spice Girls:

The only Spice girl not set to join the girls on their recently announced reunion tour, Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice):

And of course, Sporty Spice herself, Mel C:

Following each of the five Spice Girls is a hilarious strategy for KFCs social team, and they don’t stop there. Can you spot a pattern with the other seven accounts they follow?

That’s right, the Colonel follows all five SPICE Girls and six dudes names HERB. Probably has something to do with the fact that KFC prides itself on the 11 herbs and spices that make up its Original Recipe Chicken.

Needless to say this top level banter from KFC is receiving the praise it deserves from online observers:

Well played, KFC. And thank you again for your new menu item that’s being released tomorrow. I’m heading straight to a branch for lunch tomorrow.
