We’ve All Been Eating Burgers Wrong This Whole Time

Burgers. Undeniably one of the most popular foods on the planet. Burgers may have originated in Europe (perhaps in Hamburg, Germany?), or in America by a Danish immigrant. Regardless of where it’s originally from, today, burgers are an American obsession. Just look at how many of them we eat.

On average, Americans eat three hamburgers a week. That’s a national total of nearly 50 billion burgers per year. If you imagine lining all of those burgers up side by side — McDonalds next to Burger King, next to Wendy’s, organic grass-fed burgers etc… It would be a long enough line to go around the world 32 times, according to MSN. That’s almost 800,000 miles of burgers consumed by Americans every single year — a long enough line to go to the moon, come back, then go to the moon again.

With such heavy burger consumption going on, it’s easy to assume that we know everything about them, turns out that might not be the case. In fact, most of us are getting the most fundamental part of burgers wrong.. the eating part — and, no, we don’t mean you should use a knife and fork!

The correct and best way to eat a burger is, in fact, to flip it upside down, according to the experts.

This technique may look a bit of odd, but according to burger experts, there are multiple reasons why this is the way to go when chowing down on a burger.

Simon Dukes, founder of the blog Burger Lad, explained.

“Burgers are served the way they are purely for aesthetics. The crown [the top of the bun] is generally thicker than the heel, so for a better eating experience, you should actually flip it upside down to eat it.

“The crown will then hold the weight of everything else, and there is less likelihood of it falling apart in your hands. A true burger connoisseur should always eat their burgers upside down.”

I put this method to the test when rustling up Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Burger Recipe last night, and can confirm it’s delicious. If it’s good enough for the experts then it’s good enough for me. Oh, and if you’re looking for a healthier burger hack Donald Trump has you covered, cheers Pres.

Upside-down burgers it is. Thanks science.
